Happy New Year!!!

Also, present time, because my family is weird and only gives presents at new year's eve:

Lots of DVD's:
- Kung-fu Panda
- WALL-E
- Ice Age (Chinese version, I can't believe they managed to track those down!)
- Lion King (Also Chinese version)

Also:
- New iPod, 'cause my old one decided to give out on me
- WALL-E mug to go with the DVD ^^
- New pencil and marker, I needed them desperately

Probably getting more tomorrow, but it won't be as interesting.

Happy new year to all of you!

Happy New Year! ^o^

Chinese version for Ice Age and Lion King? o__o Those seem quite interesting...I guess.

I'm glad you got what you needed. <3~~~ ^^

xD I just really like Chinese, I'm studying it after all... Plus, we saw fragments of the movies in class last year and I've been trying to find them ever since.

Happy New Year! (in a few hours, I guess?)

[identity profile] johanaire.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, really? Nice~~~ ^^
It's rare to meet someone who likes Chinese, really. {I do too actually}. I don't think Chinese versions are that hard to find though. You can view a list of Chinese versions of movies at www.yesasia.com if you're ever interested.
It's great that you got them~~~ ^^

In 8 hours. ^^
{You probably already had your new year, am I correct?}

[identity profile] heleentje.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Really? Join the club! It was ridiculously hard to find them, really. All sorts of trouble with area code and compatability...

Yeah, had it about an hour ago. (Hey, we live in different years!)

[identity profile] johanaire.livejournal.com 2009-01-01 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
Yep, I do like the language, and I'm learning how to read and write now. <3 {By "Join the club!", do you mean that there's actually a club? ^^ Or are you actually using it as a phrase? Just making sure}.
Ah, compatibility. Good thing my DVD player can play VCD's. So I don't have that problem. But I'm sure it was terribly hard to find compatible ones for your player. =O

Oh, interesting. XD
Umm...hi, I'm from another planet since I'm in a different year. XD
ext_224209: (Default)

[identity profile] heleentje.livejournal.com 2009-01-01 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I suppose there's a club somewhere... You can join our Sinology department xD So yeah, I'm a Sinology student. Last year I wasn't too fond of the language but this year my outlook has really improved a lot! (Might have something to do with me not being depressed all the time anymore ^^; )

You're lucky, you are... *is envious*

ZOMG I'm having a conversation with the past!

[identity profile] johanaire.livejournal.com 2009-01-01 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
That's true. XD I did a search and this is what came up: http://community.livejournal.com/zhongguoagogo/
But that's in your country and that's like very far away from me. =O
Oh, nice~~ ^^
Hmm...really? That's awesome to hear actually. =D

I know...^^'' If I could ship you one, I'd give it to you, since mine was free with my LCD TV.

You sure are! 8D

You can come to Europe? It's a nice place ;)

I feel a lot better now, despite my complaining about my parents ^^

And you're in contact with the future *shot*

[identity profile] johanaire.livejournal.com 2009-01-01 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
I'd love to go to Europe, actually. I've never been to Europe, even though I've been to many other countries and states too. ^^
{have you been to others countries in Europe?}

Ah, well, I complain about my parents too so you're not alone. =D

Oh, yes, that's quite amazing. TIME TRAVEL! 8D
ext_224209: (Default)

[identity profile] heleentje.livejournal.com 2009-01-01 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
Quite a few, actually (since you can't drive in one direction for two hours without ending up in a different country ^^). Let's see: France, Germany, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Luxembourg, Spain, Czech Republik, Greece and Estonia (think that's it)

It got a lot better when I left them (well, for me it did, they apparently can't get over it)

YES XD Discovery of the century!

[identity profile] johanaire.livejournal.com 2009-01-01 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, wow, that's very interesting. I have to drive like 4 hours before I get to another state.
Amazing. *o* That's much more than I've been to. I've been to Japan, China and Canada. {and probably that's it. XD}

Well, it is good to leave your parents once in a while, imo. ^^

BEST INVENTION THIS YEAR AND NEXT YEAR. XD!

[identity profile] heleentje.livejournal.com 2009-01-01 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
I want to go to China and Japan! (Europe is really nothing, since everything's so close by. I've only been to two countries outside Europe: Argentina and Bolivia)

I'll probably go to China in a few years though, to study. Really looking forward to it.

Don't think I'll ever go back to my parents, though. I'm happy with the way I live now.

YAY! NEXT STOP: NOBEL PRIZE!

[identity profile] johanaire.livejournal.com 2009-01-01 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
Aww...I wished I could take you with me when I went to Japan earlier this month {I was going to go to China again, but news of bad weather stopped me} Wow...really? But aren't the different countries really different?

Hmm...interesting. ^^
Do you have any trouble pronouncing things though?

I'm glad you're happy. ^^

NOBEL PRIZE, PLEASE FOR OUR AWESOME DISCOVERY! >D
ext_224209: (Default)

[identity profile] heleentje.livejournal.com 2009-01-01 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
Bolivia is awesome, though mostly because of the people I met there. I really want to go back someday...

Well, we get very extensive pronunciation practice and we really have to learn standard Beijing pronunciation. Apparently our university is one of the best when it comes to pronunciation. But it's hard, yeah. Numbers like 44 (sìshisì ^^) or tongue-twisters are terrible to get right.

YES! GIVE US NOW!

[identity profile] johanaire.livejournal.com 2009-01-01 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
Wow...that sounds awesome. ^o^

Good thing I am bilingual, so I don't have to learn pronunciation
Good thing that your university is one of the best. ^^
It would be even harder, I'd assume, if your university wasn't ranked the best in that regard.

GIVE US. WHERE IS IT?!
ext_224209: (Default)

[identity profile] heleentje.livejournal.com 2009-01-01 03:18 pm (UTC)(link)
You're bilingual? Awesome! (Which languages?)

Oh definitely, there's another university in Belgium that teaches the same classes, but they're not as good.

THERE MUST BE MONEY! OURS!

[identity profile] johanaire.livejournal.com 2009-01-01 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I sure am. And thanks. ^^
English and Chinese, actually. You probably would never guess that from the conversation. XDDD

Hmm...interesting.
I do think that education does really matter when you're learning anything. *lives in America so knows of the talent in Europe as opposed to the...people here*

I forgot how much money was given out for the Nobel Prize though. Do you remember the number?
ext_224209: (Default)

[identity profile] heleentje.livejournal.com 2009-01-01 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope, never would've guessed ;) When did you start learning them? From birth or later on?

(We sure learn enough languages here, Chinese is my 8th, to be perfectly honest ^^)

A lot... don't know how much but definitely enough for both of us ^^

[identity profile] johanaire.livejournal.com 2009-01-01 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Not that early, I think. I was sent to language school early on, so that's how I learned the language {so I'm not sure how much that makes me bilingual}

(Wow...8th?! So are you fluent in the others? That's...amazing...o__o)

I remember that it was just 1 million. XD
ext_224209: (Default)

[identity profile] heleentje.livejournal.com 2009-01-01 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it does... Most people here count themselves as multilingual once htey know more than one language.

I'm not fluent in all of them ^^ I'm fluent in three (Dutch, English, French), have some knowledge of three others (Spanish, German, Chinese) and I know how to understand the last two (Latin and Greek, but those might not actually count)

1 million euro or dollar? It's still enough though ^^

[identity profile] johanaire.livejournal.com 2009-01-02 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm...that's true, I guess. I'm almost fluent in Chinese in terms of speaking since I learned it when I was young, but I can't really comprehend a lot. =__=;;

Oh, I see. That's awesome. ^^

Dollars, probably. Or Euro. I dont' really remember.
ext_224209: (Default)

[identity profile] heleentje.livejournal.com 2009-01-02 02:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Is your family from China or...?

Heh, I usually qualify 'being fluent in a language' as 'being able to write an interesting story in it'. And my Chinese definitely isn't at that level yet xD Writing is my weakest point, actually, I don't have a good memory for characters.

Euros preferably ;) Too lazy to look it up though

[identity profile] johanaire.livejournal.com 2009-01-02 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
My immediate family isn't from China. XD

Oh, wow, that's an interesting criterion. <3~~~!
Same here. The characters are hard to memorize.

Same here. Euros are better than the US dollar.
ext_224209: (Default)

[identity profile] heleentje.livejournal.com 2009-01-04 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry, totally late reply :/

So, which part of your family is? And where are they from? (If you want to tell, of course. Just curious ^^)

My main problem is pronunciation really (especially for English and French) I just don't get to actually speak other languages as much as I'd like to :(

And they're worth more right now ^^

[identity profile] johanaire.livejournal.com 2009-01-05 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
It's totally okay! ^o^

I'd like to leave it at "It's complicated" since part of my family is from Asia {probably China, maybe?} and part of my family is from the Netherlands (I think). So I'm not really sure. ^^''

Oh, ah, ha, yes, I have that problem as well. I also have a problem with learning new grammar too (especially for formal situations) since I'm usually used to hearing more casual {e.g. "Tu" vs "Vous" in French.}

That's very true. It's 10 million Swedish Kroner, but I'm not sure how much that is. o__o
ext_224209: (Default)

[identity profile] heleentje.livejournal.com 2009-01-05 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, that's a complicated history, you've really got international genes ^^
And the Netherlands? If you ever go there, make sure to pay a visit to the country a bit more to the south ;)

English is 'till thusfar the only language I've come across that doesn't have a formal form, it actually confused me so much when I started learning it (and still kinda does, to be honest)

It sounds like a lot ^^ Which is good :p

[identity profile] johanaire.livejournal.com 2009-01-06 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
That is sure true. ^^
I sure will. =D That's your country, right? ;D

Formal form? That is true. It certainly is a weird language, with a lot of exceptions here and there. {that shouldn't be much of a problem later. ^^}

Yep! XD
ext_224209: (Default)

[identity profile] heleentje.livejournal.com 2009-01-07 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup, good 'ol Belgium ^^ Come visit us, it's close by!
Every language is weird xD I got used to it. (Tip: Don't try to leanr Dutch unless you're a masochist. English and Chinese are both ridiculously simple in comparison)

[identity profile] johanaire.livejournal.com 2009-01-08 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, sure, I will. >D Which city should I go to first in Belgium?
That is sure true. xD {Really? Wow...that sounds like Dutch is really hard to learn. x.x English = simple sound very very scary. x.x But thanks for the tip. =D}
ext_224209: (Default)

[identity profile] heleentje.livejournal.com 2009-01-08 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh, tough question. Antwerp and Ghent are closest to the Dutch border (but that doesn't mean much), Brussels is the capital... Heh, I live inbetween Antwerp and Brussels ^^
Dutch and English resemble each other quite a bit, but I still think Dutch is harder to learn. We have a lot of weird rules and particles that are hard to use, but invaluable when you want to construct a correct sentence (bit like 了 in Chinese)

[identity profile] johanaire.livejournal.com 2009-01-10 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
Hmmm...oh, I see. ^^
Well, which place would have more of the culture preserved? I'd like to see remnants of history when I go to cities. ^^

I've heard that before, and that sounds...like it's really weird. @__@
{Yep, but then you can avoid 了 by using something more informal like the word for tooth with a mouth before it. can't type Chinese on my computer. ^^''}
ext_224209: (Default)

[identity profile] heleentje.livejournal.com 2009-01-10 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Mmm, I think you'd be best off with Ghent or Bruges then.

You mean 呀? Heh, I have no idea how to use it, and I don't think we're allowed to either xD; We need to learn the correct way and all that...

[identity profile] johanaire.livejournal.com 2009-01-16 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry for replying so late. ^^''
My e-mail box got spammed so I didn't realize you replied. ^^

Oh, okay, I'll keep that in mind, and if I ever go, I'll tell you. =D

Yep, that's exactly the word I mean.
It...sometimes signifies annoyance. ^^''
So you'd probably be better off not using it. I know how to express annoyance alright in Chinese. It often annoys others even. XD;;;
ext_224209: (Default)

[identity profile] heleentje.livejournal.com 2009-01-17 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee, no problem ^^

Don't forget! :p

Oh, that's interesting to know! I'll have to pay attention to my Chinese friends then, see if they ever use it (if it's directed at me I'll at least know that I'm being annoying :p)

[identity profile] johanaire.livejournal.com 2009-01-17 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I will surely not! >D

However, that word can also be used in a non-annoying way, so don't always think that you're annoying. XD;;
ext_224209: (Default)

[identity profile] heleentje.livejournal.com 2009-01-17 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll keep that in mind then ;) And when our teachers start doing it I can at least tell everyone to shut up ^^

[identity profile] johanaire.livejournal.com 2009-01-17 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, ha, but then again, probably you can use it differently, so I'd still keep that in mind if I were you. ^^
ext_224209: (Default)

[identity profile] heleentje.livejournal.com 2009-01-18 12:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I will! I could always ask them, of course, but maybe that's a bit blunt ^^
